"The widespread myth that the medieval people believed in a flat earth is of modern origin." The history book I am reading says people knew the earth was spherical (thanks to Aristotle) way back in 200 B.C.

Okay, so the really smart people of Greece (which was very advanced anyway, culture included) knew that the Earth is round. But what about the rest of the world? Or even Southeast Europa after the fall of Hellenic Greece?

Apparently (at least the author hints towarsd this), Greek philosophy directly influenced European philosophy. Plus, I am sure the news would have no trouble spreading in over 1700 years... :)

I knew that. (: Actually, I heard at some point in my education that the scholars of Columbus' time (including those in Europe) didn't really think the world was flat, and that's just something we came up with somehow. Like Washington's wooden teeth. Hehe.
