I gots one
Time for me to get an optical mouse.. my $15 Logitech MouseMan is finally going the way of the buffalo.
Anybody got optical mouse recommendations? Here's roughly what I want: at least 100 Hz sampling rate, a mousewheel that scrolls smoothly (not like most that I have used... you scroll a few clicks and suddenly the screen scrolls a page), three buttons, and preferably a low price. ;)
It's not cheap, but the Intellimouse Explorer from Microsoft is a great mouse.. I've had one for about 3 years now... and nothing's wrong with it. It has 5 buttons... (2 programmable thumb buttons, and a middle with a scroll). If you want to get a toned down version without the 2 extra buttons... the wheelmouse optical works great... it's not as comfortable on the hands as the explorer, but it works great.
I've had a Logitech WheelMan or some such for a while. No real problems. I notice sometimes when I'm listening to music and I'm not touching the mouse, the cursor will vibrate with the bass in the song until I touch the mouse again. Pretty weird.
I've got 2 opticals...both Logitech. One of them is wireless and has serious lag, so avoid wireless...good luck
Chad, would you tell me if you get a good one? I am getting disgusted by my mouse (as I think you are too, based on how much you clean it) and I think that I would like an optical mouse...but I need one that's not too expensive...
Yeah, I will recommend one if I can. :)
And maybe we will have to take another trip to Best Buy. ;)
LOL! sounds good to me! :D
the logitech cordless freedom is a good package. at 80 bux it's kinda steep, but wireless and optical it's a wicked deal (it's keyboard and mouse and wirelesss and optical). my parents have it and i love the way the mouse feels (and the wheel too), so it's something i'd have if i'd get off my ass and try to find a store with some in stock (they seem to be pretty popular).

The Microsoft Intellimouse Optical is really the standard. The Explorer is too expensive ($80+) and is unnecessarily large. The Logitechs also feel awkward to most of my coworkers; I would recommend the one mentioned above only if you absolutely must have cordless.
125+ Hz sampling with USB. Smooth scrolling (of course tweakable in TweakUI). I would also recommend a Ratpadz mousepad, as it has made my clunkiest mouse movements absolutely smooth.
Oh, yeah, almost forgot, $40 at Office Max. ($50 at Best Buy, price match?)
