Avant Browser
My brother showed me Avant Browser today. It's like Mozilla in that supports tabbed browsing and popup-blocking. It's like IE in that it loads quickly, is responsive, and doesn't require ungodly amounts of RAM. It's also got a bunch of sweet features of its own. When you close it, it remembers all of the tabs you have open and then reopens them the next time you start the browser. You can set it to autorefresh windows at given intervals. For example, slashdot every 30 minutes, if you're into that.
Haven't found any quirks yet. I think I'll be making this one my default browser. (Yes, a former Mozilla hacker recommending another browser.)
Update: MAJOR quirk: CTRL-F opens the "find in page" dialog box, but it doesn't work on some pages. It says "Not found in page."
Also: StarDock is a really cool company. Check out CursorXP if you have Windows 2000 or XP.
Software like this totally freaks me out.
It's marketted like commercial software, but has no catches. WHY DOES THIS NOT SUCK AND/OR SELL PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THIRD PARTIES.
"Too good to be true" syndrome, or something.
oh, there it is. It uses IE to render things (wrong). <:D
Shareaza is the same way, no?
IE is with us to stay, and there's not much anybody has done to fix that, so it doesn't really bother me that much.
yeah!
