Day 1 Last Friday, I drove down to Omaha right after class so Laura and I could go a Cake concert. Before the concert started, Laura showed me a $0.50 DDR machine (which had major sensitivity and volume issues) and I had to at least try it. My DDR skills have declined greatly in recent weeks and Laura doesn't really like watching me play, so we headed to the show after three songs. Laura's friend Misti is insane. Misti's friend Jacob is even more so. They like to "porkchop" people, which is really just a running shoulder slam. They also like "love sticks" or something. Weirdness all around. The show started. A seven-piece bluegrass band called The Hackensaw Boys started it off with some amazingly catchy and fun tunes. They even had a country music hall-of-famer (Charlie Louvin) come out and sing with them. Good times. The Detroit Cobras were the second opening act. Wow did they suck. Tas might have liked them, but I don't think anyone at Creighton did. Luckily, they left after five songs. (Perhaps it was the booing?) Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, Cake appeared. They're super cool. Every song was fun, and I haven't even listened to that much Cake before. (That's gonna change!) And they ended with I Will Survive. The bestest cover ever. Day 2 Wedding in Des Moines! My friend Jason Stanek was getting married Saturday afternoon, and I was invited. Laura and I were putting on our fancy clothes and whatnot, when she commanded that I shave. A good boy, I tried. But my electric razor ran out of batteries when I was only halfway done! And we were late! Laura (a good girl) ran down to the Market in her dress and flip-flops and bought me a razor and shaving cream. I had never used shaving cream before (before I got my electric razor, I dry-shaved), so she had to teach me. And seeing my face covered in white foam was so comical that I couldn't stop laughing. Eventually, I managed to get mostly cleaned up, and, impressively, I wasn't even bleeding that much! We ran out, hopped in the car, and drove the 45 miles or so to the church, getting there about five minutes early. Seeing Sean (old programming contest rival; he usually beat me) and Jason in a church was really weird to me, for some reason. But the wedding went really well, and I was happy for Jason and Kimberly. The reception was good too. Lots of good food and great cheese. Free beer too, but I didn't have any, as I was the driver. Good conversation: Yogy (another programming contest buddy), who I haven't seen in forever, was there, as well as Ronald (VRACer) and his girlfriend. Laura even got me to dance to weird songs such as Shout, the Chicken Dance, and the Hokie Pokie. :| All in all, a fun day. Day 3 Laura played racquetball with me! :D She's not as bad as she always said she would be! It's all that tennis experience. :P We also went to Great Plains, the BEST pizza place ever. Laura ate half of a medium pizza, which is totally amazing. I could barely eat the other half, and I normally eat 10 times more than she does. We went outside and walked around downtown Ames for a while, to let the food settle and enjoy the weather. But then I had to take her home. :( The drive was long and boring, but I managed to stay awake. Last Night ISU CS Club programming contest. My goal was to go and whoop up, but the lab was PACKED full of people. Stjepan was there, and that man can solve problems like no other. I was one of three groups to solve all of the problems. Maybe I'll get a prize or something. It was fun. This Weekend Ben, Mike, and I are going to play Diablo II. Mike will be a paladin, Ben a sorceress, and me a necro. Woo hoo. ^_^
