Media Player Update
First, the boring software:
Thunderbird's "quick sort" thing at the top of mail boxes is awesome.
I'm installing OpenOffice 1.1. Apparently it can export PowerPoints to Flash. That's awesome. I'm also looking forward to the "convert to PDF" feature.
I tried out iTunes. It sucks up a lot of RAM, but I have plenty to spare. The CPU usage isn't too bad either. However! It took FOREVER to add my music library (37 GB). And it crashed just before it finished anyway. And it doesn't support Ogg Vorbis by default either. :( But for playing MP3s, it works really well. I really like the playlist management features... too bad the vorbis thing gets in the way. :P
However, I was recommended another media player called Quintessential Player. I normally don't like these flashy players with all kinds of weird windows, but this one is pretty sweet. I easily downloaded a MacOS X theme from within its preferences window, and it looks great. The CPU usage is pretty low, the UI is nice and clean, and it actually supports Vorbis out of the box. Quintessential has a lot of polish, and thus receives AegisKnight's Seal of Excellence.
Know what's great? Given a decent amount of RAM, a P2 400 is plenty fast for almost any everyday task. The only reasons I'm upgrading are games, compiling, modeling, and the occasional super-high-resolution DivX.
... another tag, another headline. another smiling photograph shall stay 10 inches long forever.
