Moonbase Weirdness
Somehow, games that have odd bugs in them end up being more fun.
In that one, I was trying to host a game with a few people, and nobody could connect. When I was about to leave, it actually kicked me out of the players list in the game I was hosting. Just to see what would happen, I added four bots and started the game. It started all of the bots in the same area, and gave me control of Brutakas. o_o The game only lasted a couple turns, as you can guess.
Here's an example of MBC's terrible network code. I was playing with McGrue (this screenshot is from his perspective) and every time I launched a building, it also came out of his tower. Before too long, we just got so out of sync that the game stopped itself. (After looking in the replays afterwards, it appears we both started in the same area of the map, but to each other we were in different areas.)
This looks neat. Where can I get it?
Google for "Moonbase Commander". Humongous made it, Infogrames published it. There is a demo, but you can probably find it in a nearby game store for $5.
Darn. I was hoping it was open source, or at least free.
I wish MBC's netcode didn't suck so much ass. Then I could play. :(
