in my experience almost all forums and communities become useless after a while. Keeping something invite only is too much work and at the same time keeping it open inevitably leads to more dumbnuts than reasonable people.

Yeah, I really think flipcode needs moderators. The smart people all hang out on the heavily moderated lists. Although they act like babies sometimes too. :P Must be a human nature thing.
