Cost of Living
I went grocery shopping for the first time in Menlo Park last night and almost cried.
1) A box of Cheerios is $5! How can Cheerios be more expensive in different areas of the country?
2) Safeway gouges you by doubling the price of most things if you don't have a Safeway Club Card.
3) No meat counter?!?! What is this, California or something? And the only bratwurst they have is the crappy Johnson brand!
4) The only thing that is cheaper here than in Ames is alcohol, which is sometimes a third as expensive (?!?!).
5) And on the way out, I saw that the gas I need for the Cadillac is $3.17 a gallon now. ;_;
Welcome to California.
Yeah, when Sarah and I were out there for our honeymoon it was nuts how much groceries cost... made me glad to live where I live.
Yeah, you're going to pretty much have to shop at places like costco or winco to get anything resembling decent prices here.
OC = OH CRAP!!!
Want me to mail you cheerios? :O
Hang in there :'(
Yeah, that's what you get for living in California, punky! You with your perfect weather, good job and long beaches!
Ha!
I guess the only thing more expensive in Austin than I'm used to is Dairy Products, but most people don't understand that upstate NY is #2 in national dairy production. Damn you, Wisconsin!
I'll get to see one last butter sculpture at this year's state fair.
But I also guess that gas there is cheaper than elsewhere stateside. I'll gladly exchange the price of a gallon of gas and a gallon of milk!
Don't forget the earthquakes.
About the Club Cards:
When prompted to scan the card, just choose to enter a random phone number instead. Chances are that it will work!
