Laura and I got a Wii on Sunday morning. (Barely. Luckily, Target got a shipment of 88.) And digital cable today. We already had: DVD player, VCR, TV-out (from my computer), PlayStation 2, N64, and a GameCube (which the Wii will replace soon). So... I'm looking for an 8-way A/V switch. Definitely needs composite video, s-video a nice-to-have. Manual switches are better. We don't need a full-fledged receiver yet, at least until we get an HDTV.
I can't find anything. Any recommendations?
You can't just put the receiver on the ground and switch out cables EVERY SINGLE TIME like we do?
Also allow me to be negative: eww TV! :)
I think you should get the HDTV and the receiver too...and get rid of the VCR. You'll have to review the Wii once you get a chance to use it.
You might want to message zeromus, as he has spent a great deal of time investigating multiple A/V switch options and configurations. We have connected to the TV downstairs an SNES, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, and NES, but I think we have two four-way switches daisy-chained together. At the time we assembled the E-zone, I don't think we had many other options, but I was at Fry's the other day and saw a rather large composite A/V switch in the console gaming section. I believe it was eight-way, and was like $99.
HDTV has to wait until 2008, when Gran Turismo 5 for PS3 comes out... :)
I think I'll get a new sound system and driving wheel then too.
Does zero use google talk?
Mmm... I'll check Fry's today, thanks. Outpost.com wasn't much help. I was worried about the quality loss and wire mess involved in daisy chaining, but if that's what must be done, I can just put the crappier devices farther away from the TV.
Yeah, I just shot you an email with his contact info.
a bad job
